Product managers are responsible for the conception, creation, and launch of new products. Their day-to-day may include a lot of different tasks — providing product strategy, specifying technical and functional requirements, launching the product, or initiating ongoing updates such as new features, just to name a few.

With all of these responsibilities, one must wonder what the pay looks like. Although I’m not a product manager myself, I’ve worked closely with them in my work as a data scientist. So in this article, I wanted to dig into the data to understand a key factor that one should consider when contemplating a career in product management — compensation. Or, if you’re just curious how much product managers make, look no further.

I analyzed over 2,800 self-reported salaries from levels.fyi in order come up with the following breakdown:

  • Entry level roles (0–1 YOE): $123k — $171k
  • Entry to mid-level roles (2–4 YOE): $134k — $224k
  • Mid-level to senior roles (5–9 YOE): $174k — $321k
  • ≥ Senior roles (10+ YOE): $210k — $401k
